Quinta de Soalheiro is a four-generation family business.
It is a pioneer in the creation of Alvarinho wine in Melgaço, and an international benchmark for the wines of this grape variety, blending perfectly into the distinctive Minho landscape surrounding it.

In the nineteen seventies (1974), a passion for winemaking led João António Cerdeira, with the support of his father, António Esteves Ferreira, to plant the first Alvarinho vine and to create the first brand of Alvarinho in Melgaço in 1982, and one of the first Alvarinho brands in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço.

Located in Melgaço (Portugal’s northernmost point) it is protected by a range of mountains that create the conditions necessary for the best ripening of Alvarinho grapes. Here, the Alvarinho is special. The land is protected by a set of mountains that create the rain, temperature and hours of sunshine, conditions necessary for the best ripening of the grapes.

Through the years, Quinta de Soalheiro and its expressive wines have gained international recognition & awards from different parts of the world: Japan, Germany, Norway, the United States, England, through the trade press, wine journalists in the general media, sommeliers, chefs and buyers.

In Portugal, Quinta de Soalheiro is widely regarded as one of the most serious growers of Alvarinho and continues to gain national awards and accolades with one of the most recent highlights being voted “Brand of the Year 2019” by Revista dos Vinhos (Portugal’s leading wine publication).
